140W x 2 @ 2Ω

Amplifiers with a Power Output Rating of 140-Watts x 2-Channels, 2-Ohm Final Impedance

Amplifiers with a Power Output Rating of 140-Watts x 2-Channels, 2-Ohm Final Impedance

RMS power: This rating of any amplifier is the continuous power rating that an amp is designed to output at a maximum continued volume rating. The RMS power specification is one of two numbers to go by when pairing your speakers with an amplifier, not the only 2 but a good starting point. As an example, a speaker driver with a 140-Watt, or 140W for short, RMS rating should be paired with a one-hundred-forty-watt RMS amplifier. We usually recommend an amp to be over powered by 10% RMS so that the power-plant does not have to work at 100% capacity to get 100-percent efficiency from your speakers. This will keep your amplifier from overheating during long periods of continuous operation.

Ohms: Is the resistance rating of an amp and is the second most important when pairing drivers with amplifiers. A power-plant that is 140W @ 2-ohm might only put out 70-Watts @ 4Ω. When purchasing an amplifier, the correct pairing of a speaker’s RMS wattage and Ohm ratings with an amp’s output power rating is absolutely essential.

MX-Series 4-Channel Class-D Marine-Grade Amplifier, 70-Watts x 4ch @ 2-Ohm or 50-Watts x 4ch @ 4-Ohm Engineered specifically for powersports applications, the 4-channel MX280/4 amplifier employs JL's high-speed NexD™ switching design to deliver plenty of clean power, without straining charging systems. Its tiny, cast aluminum chassis is highly resistant to corrosion, with an IPX7 water-resistance rating, making it perfect for motorcycles, ATV’s or other utility vehicles. Generating a solid 50W x 4 into 4 ohms (14.4V, 1% THD), the MX280/4 is fully bridgeable, so it can be used as a 3-channel amplifier, or as a 2-channel amplifier producing a potent 140W x 2 into 4 ohms. Other features include independent front and rear crossovers with selectable full-range, high-pass or low-pass filter controls and a dual-range input section that accepts a wide range of input voltage levels, from line-level all the way to high-power speaker level signals. This amplifier features a black powder-coated finish, a gasketed cover for the controls and stainless steel hardware for durability.
